What to Prepare Before Sending a Prototype RFQ: Files, Drawings, and Finish Notes
Files, Drawings, and Finish Notes
Before you release the project
- Define the function, environment and the question this batch must answer.
- Specify material grade, geometry, quantity, finish and the dimensions that control fit.
- Agree the inspection method and the evidence required to accept the parts.
- Record the drawing revision and approval before production begins.
Common planning questions
How many prototypes should I order?
Order enough to answer the current test question and account for destructive testing or parallel reviews. A larger batch is useful only when it advances the program.
When should the design be frozen?
When the planned validation gates are satisfied and the remaining risk is acceptable for the next production commitment. Record changes and approval criteria.
